I’ve known I want to write music since before my memories begin. When I was eight, my mother enrolled me in piano lessons, which I took to like a bird to the sky,. Over the next decade I taught myself how to compose for piano and digital orchestra, produce pop instrumentals, arrange sheet music, and write lyrics. I discovered that my specific calling was film scoring when I was eleven, after watching How To Train Your Dragon (the specific scene being ‘Forbidden Friendship’). Eight years later, I had the opportunity to score my first short film: ‘Vicarious Sin’, written & directed by Sara Prüther.
My other passion, theatre, began much later in life. My mother was a theatre kid, so I grew up familiar with it in a passing sense, but I didn’t join it until my sophomore year of college, when on a whim I decided to take an acting class, which in turn led to me understudying the role of Shelby Holcomb in John Proctor is the Villain. Then came my role of Snout/Wall in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which solidified my desire to pursue my degree in theatre. Since then it has become one the most fulfilling parts of my life.
Outside of music and theatre, I have a passion for writing. Novels, stage plays, poetry, short fiction—all of it calls to me, as it does to any generally creatively-inclined individual. One of my poems was published by Route 7 Review, my college’s online literary arts journal (‘Poseidon’s Deep’, read it here). My other hobbies include reading, watching good films + TV + YouTube videos, listening to music, exploring the outdoors, and learning languages + sciences.
The thing that gives me the greatest feeling of inspiration is experiencing incredible film music while watching a good movie in theaters. Nothing can replace it. Of course, it directly inspires my main creative career as a film score composer, but it also bleeds into my other storytelling methods. The ‘pop’ style songs I write and produce often have cinematic elements to them, with a sense of grandeur and fire always present in my creative essence. I am also deeply inspired by the natural world; nothing is more magnificent than Mother Earth. Above all else, though, my passion for humanity is what drives me.
